Don Quioxote Fighting Windmills 2016

The story of Don Quixote is a well known story that began as a 17th century novel, then became a teleplay, and then a musical, J Lawrence transposed the compositional elements from those different art forms and created this sculpture. It is the inspiration from the novelist to the playwright and then to a composer and lyricist to tell the same story with each different art form. Each taking different, but similar parameters and transposing them into each creator's art form. Sculpture helps put the viewer physically closer allowing them to be part of their story.

David and Goliath 2013

40" various metals and wire This sculpture used physical, heavy elements to depict the brutality of Goliath which compares to the lighter, meek materials presenting David. Notice the angle of each character as Goliath is tilting backward and David is moving forward toward his adversary. The famous biblical story has inspired many artists, but especially composer Harry Massoud's instrumental song. This inspired the screenwriters to create their movies depicting their story which inspired the musical series. Abrams inspired by these art forms helped to define his story with sculpture keeping with the elements of each creative form. The finishing touch is always left for the viewer to add their inspirational interpretation.

Embracing Love through it all 2018

Abrams depicts the many facets of Love through the compositional elements suggesting balance, struggle, pain, embrace, intimacy, sharing, and death. The one element that may not be initially evident but the most important is the material itself: concrete showing strength. J Lawrence had to chisel the entire sculpture
by hand to keep himself sensitive to the meanings of the sculpture.

'The Magazine Rack: The Teacher' 2019

J Lawrence uses as his spoke piece for his social commentary. at first glance the oversized magazine rack is just a backdrop to the central figure. The figure in the middle is meant to captures the viewer's immediate attention in displaying a diploma and a magazine. Not so obvious is the message that is spelled out by the magazines strategically placed on the rack. The message within a message is to the viewer is just how the media becomes our dominant teacher. The viewer will then be able to look back to the central figure and how they can relate.

Art becomes Us 2018

The figure in the foreground made of wood, metals and resin is you the viewer being overcome by the paining itself. The painting depicts a work of Picasso made of canvas , paper, copper, tin, paint and wood frame. JLawrence is conveying a message in that art is a very important element in our development. This message may be simple and obvious, but not to those who have really been changed by it. This is what an art museum visitor will experience first hand as they are overtaken by the art itself.
